Justin and Ali met in February 2012 while working at The Fayetteville Observer in North Carolina. They were dating within two months, and living together six months later, then they decided to slow things down - sort of. Over the next three years, the couple moved to Hampton, Va., then Williamsburg, while working at separate papers. They decided to make Richmond their home when Ali, a reporter, joined Justin, a designer, at the Richmond Times-Dispatch, where they both still work. They bought a home that they're fixing up room-by-room in Richmond's Oregon Hill neighborhood. In October 2017, Justin finally popped the question after hiking up a rugged trail leading to the top of two waterfalls in Yosemite National Park. The ring, his maternal grandmother's band, took only a few months to get resized to fit Ali's left ring finger with the addition of a diamond from his paternal grandmother. Making it all worth the wait.
